Things I have learned from blogging

  • Blogging is a TON of work. It is literally a second full time job for me (but I’m not complaining). I think so many of my friends think I just post pretty pictures and that’s about it. People on the outside don’t see the time it takes to shoot, edit, write content, schedule posts, etc. Believe me, I saw bloggers say this before I started and thought that they were exaggerating but it really is SO time consuming. I wish more than anything that I had more time to put into it.
  • People won’t always understand it. Even today, I struggle with this. Blogging has grown so much but a lot of people still don’t understand exactly what it is or why you do it.
  • You continuously have to prove your worth. there will always be brands and companies that don’t value you, your blog or your work. It is so important to publish great content and constantly put only your best foot forward.
  • Blogging can be so rewarding. I wanted to get the more negative points out first but I have to say, blogging is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. It’s my passion and I thoroughly enjoy creating content for you guys. The blogging community is incredible and so are all of you!

Blogging Tips for Beginners

  1. Do NOT compare yourself– The blogging world is SO saturated and you are going to be in a constant battle with yourself. You want to get inspired by other blogs and bloggers but it’s important to just do you and not compare your blog with everyone elses. That being said, you need to find your voice and what makes you unique to be successful in this industry.
  2. Analyze what your readers like/buy so that you know what works for you
  3. Plan Ahead- Blogging is a LOT of work. If you’re already a blogger- you know this. It is hard to get everything done when you work two jobs. If you do not plan your content ahead of time or map out your posts for the week, you will be more likely to put blogging on the back burn. This is something I’m still working on. Get into a routine that works for you and your busy schedule so that you can stay consistent.
  4. Treat your blog as a business from the beginning– My blog changed SO much when I started treating it like a business. This doesn’t always mean you will make tons of money starting out but if you treat it like a business, you will make blogging a priority and always put out your best work.
  5. Be real with your audience– This is so important!!! There’s negative connotation surrounding bloggers that they live the perfect life but we are human too. We have things going on in our life just like you do and people will trust you so much more if you are honest and make connections with them.

This blog has come such a long way and as embarrassing as my first posts are- I love looking back and realizing how much I have learned over the last two years. You can see my first posts here if you’re ready for a good laugh!

Thank you all so much for reading and following along on this journey with me!

Xx, Annie

Congrats on your bloggaversary. I’ve been doing this myself for quite awhile but really only gotten serious about monetizing it a couple of years ago. Definitely a LOT of work and planning is so key, especially since this is still only my “side hustle”. I love my Google spreadsheets!

Planning ahead is something I still struggle with. My posts are all usually random and not preplanned unless it’s sponsored!
