Hi friends! Today I’m sharing my first fitness routine post on Absolutely Annie. I get a lot of questions about my fitness routine so I decided to write a post all about it! I plan to do more of these fitness routine posts in the future so if you ever have any questions, feel free to ask! I also love incorporating fashion into my fitness attire while also making sure it is functional. I have recently tried out a new company called Wantable. Wantable is a subscription service where you have a stylist who chooses pieces for you each month. You can choose to keep as many pieces in the box as you like for a discounted price. These leggings are from my first Wantable box and I love how unique they are. They literally feel like pajamas and go perfectly with this Onzie cropped tank.
Let’s get into it! So I’ve always been an active person. Growing up I did competitive gymnastics for many years and was also very involved in soccer, swimming and cheerleading. A few years after I graduated high school (well into my college years) I realized that I needed to find other ways to be active since I wasn’t in organized sports anymore. I picked up running. At first, I hated it. I dreaded going out for a run. I would find any excuse not to go. That is, until I found a friend who was extremely passionate about fitness. We became running buddies and I’ve enjoyed running ever since.
Fast forward a few years to my current fitness routine:
-I have been doing Orangetheory a few times a week. If you don’t know, Orangetheory is a group fitness class using high intensity interval training. The classes combine cardio and weight training and I absolutely LOVE them! I’ve never worked out so hard in my life and I love classes because they’re motivating and fun!
-Having a dog definitely helps keep me active. I take Jake for a walk every night- usually about a mile.
-I usually try to workout 3-4 times a week. On days that I don’t go to Orangetheory, I’ll go for a run with Jake. We usually run about 3 miles. Sometimes more, sometimes less depending on the temperature. When we get back I’ll do a few strength exercises with 5 pound weights. I love the Tone It Up girls and do about 15 minutes of their videos.
In addition to working out I have worked really hard to implement healthier choices throughout my daily routine. I have noticed these small things make BIG differences.
-I always take the stairs when possible. I HATE elevators so this is easy for me but stairs are such good exercise.
-I try to park my car a little bit farther out in the parking lot to get in a few extra steps throughout the day.
-I came up with a healthier Starbucks drink that I still enjoy (black coffee-yuck!). Grande iced coffee with sugar free vanilla syrup and coconut milk 😉
-Limiting my dairy intake. I mainly started limiting dairy for acne and my skin but every health guru I meet says to give up dairy. I definitely won’t give up dairy completely- I love my greek yogurt and pizza on the weekends 😉 but I stopped buying cheese to snack on and I don’t drink cow’s milk.
-Increasing the amount of water you drink. I know everybody tells you to drink more water but it really does make a difference. After indulging for a few days I always try to get back on track by drinking A LOT of water.
-Reducing sugar. I admit that I have a HUGE sweet tooth and eat dessert almost everyday.. it’s something I can’t change about myself haha! But when you start looking at labels, you’ll realize how much sugar is in other foods too. Think breads, oatmeal, yogurt, granola, etc. I was shocked! I try to snack on foods that are lower in sugar like pita chips and hummus or apples and turkey slices. I don’t worry about the natural sugars in fruits & vegetables though 🙂
Well, that’s all for today! Let me know how you make healthier choices 🙂
